My projects

Six initiatives, six dedicated websites — from profiling biting sharks to conservation in the Mediterranean.

I am probably the precursor of the “shark profiling” concept.

This concept relies above all on scientific and technical foundations to identify and neutralize biting sharks. Beyond identification, solutions must be provided; to that end, I contributed to the emergence of a start-up offering suitable, environmentally responsible tools based on our latest scientific advances in understanding the behavioral ecology of the sharks involved and in improving genetic tools.

To prove our approach based on the individual behavior of sharks, we had to demonstrate the existence of strong individual personalities, which was made possible by a grant from the French National Research Agency that funded a dedicated project. On a more operational level, following a fatal tiger shark bite on the island of Saint-Martin (Northern Caribbean), a project aiming to find the biting shark and secure the blue economies of the area was funded by the French Ministry of the Interior.

Alongside these projects focused on shark risk, I contributed to the emergence of an NGO in Spain (Balearic Islands) working for shark conservation in the western Mediterranean. Finally, over the course of my (long) career, I have had the privilege of developing various projects and activities that have shaped my expertise.
