My veterinary training allowed me to develop a forensic expertise in identifying the species and estimating the size of biting sharks (using a classical approach): see for instance white shark bites in New Caledonia in 2010 and 2013, tiger shark bites in 2014 and 2023 (French Polynesia), oceanic whitetip bites in 2021 or sicklefin lemon shark bites in 2019.
From the bite to the individual: novel forensic approaches.
In parallel, I developed novel approaches in this field, relying on the presence of anomalous features such as symphyseal teeth, the design of environmentally responsible protocols or the use of genetics to remove biting sharks.
